rajya sabha: Derek O’Brien suspended from Rajya Sabha for ‘unruly behaviour’ | India Information – Occasions of India

NEW DELHI: : Trinamool Congress ground chief Derek O’Brien was suspended from Rajya Sabha on Tuesday for the remaining days of the winter session for ‘unruly behaviour’ of hurling rule book on the Chair. With this, the entire variety of members suspended from Rajya Sabha goes as much as 13. The session is to conclude on December 23.
This comes on a day when the opposition staged a walkout over a invoice on electoral reforms to hyperlink voters’ playing cards with Aadhaar. The opposition wished a division of votes as they’d moved a movement to ship the proposed regulation to a choose committee, which was rejected by voice vote. The TMC MP was suspended after he allegedly threw the Rule E-book on the path of the Chair throughout a dialogue on the Election Legal guidelines (Modification) Invoice, 2021.
Earlier than adjourning the proceedings for the day, Sasmit Patra, who was within the Chair, condemned the behaviour of O’Brien. A movement for his suspension was moved by the federal government and permitted with voice vote. It stated O’Brien has been suspended “from the companies of the Home for the remaining half of the present session for his unruly and contemptuous behaviour, unbecoming of a member of Rajya Sabha, by overtly throwing the Rajya Sabha Rule ebook in direction of the Chair… thereby bringing disrepute and disgrace to the august Home”.
Taking to Twitter, O’Brien stated he has been suspended for protesting in opposition to BJP which was “making a mockery” of Parliament by “bulldozing” the electoral reforms invoice, hoping it is going to even be repealed quickly. “The final time I obtained suspended from RS was when govt. was BULLDOZING #FarmLaws,” the TMC chief tweeted. “Everyone knows what occurred after that.”
