‘Straight to hell’: Ukraine, Russia, spar throughout heated UN meet


A visibly emotional Ukrainian ambassador traded barbs together with his Russian counterpart throughout a heated late-night emergency Safety Council assembly on the Russia-Ukraine disaster Wednesday.

Sergiy Kyslytsya implored the council, chaired by Russia, to “do every thing attainable to cease the conflict” towards his nation.

“It’s the duty of those our bodies to cease the conflict,” Kyslytsya informed the assembly of the 15-member council, which started shortly after Russian President Vladimir Putin introduced a navy operation in Ukraine.

Kyslytsya urged UN ambassador Vassily Nebenzia of Russia, which presently holds the rotating presidency of the council, to “name Putin, name (Overseas Minister Sergey) Lavrov to cease (the) aggression.”

Kyslytsya informed Nebenzia to “relinquish your duties as chair.”

“There isn’t a purgatory for conflict criminals. They go straight to hell, ambassador.”

In a sequence of heated exchanges, Nebenzia mentioned Russia was merely finishing up “a particular navy operation.”

“This is not referred to as a conflict,” he informed his Ukrainian counterpart.

Nebenzia later added: “I wished to say in conclusion that we aren’t being aggressive towards the Ukrainian folks however towards the junta that’s in energy in Kyiv.”

After the assembly, Kyslytsya described the Moscow envoy’s feedback that Russia’s incursion wasn’t a conflict “lunacy.”

“You need me to dissect the loopy lunatic semantics of an individual whose president violates the constitution, whose president declared a conflict and he is enjoying with phrases,” Kyslytsya mentioned in response to a query by a reporter.

“And you’ve got requested me to interpret. It is lunacy. It is lunacy.”
